FOLK TRAIN GALLERY - 2002
| 22 January 2002
(Click on the picture for the full series) One-time All-Ireland bodhran champion, Ciarán Boyle assembled an excellent band, including Pat Walker, whose present commitments have prevented him from being booked on the train recently. |
| 26 February 2002
(Click on the picture for the full series) Disaster struck as, for the first time since I've been running things, the outbound train had broken down. With a 'special stop order' for Edale on the 1910 to Manchester Airport, we probably left a few last-minute customers at Sheffield and left all our customers - and some of our performers - at Dore. Apologies to all! The Dunkirk spirit prevailed and Pete and Ken, with the assistance of Pete Burnett, gave us a memorable evening. |
| 25 March 2002
(Click on the picture for the full series) Treebeard, first-timers on the train,. combined a zany liveliness with talent and non-stop energy. Even a cold, dark platform didn't stop them! |
| 23 April 2002
(Click on the picture for the full series) For St. George's Day we needed a group who perform mainly English music and who better than this young and highly talented group. They get better every time they appear - dazzling instrumentals and superb harmony singing. |
| 28 May 2002
Sorry! I was away in Poland with Sheffield City Morris so I have no pictures. If anyone took pictures I would be grateful if you would e-mail them to me. |
| 25 June 2002
(Click on the picture for the full series) Sheffield City Morris filled their usual slot (nothing to do with being a member myself!!) and brought in the Summer with the usual display of "rhythmic grace and athletic precision". |
| 23 July 2002
(Click on the picture for the full series) Feet First brought their Appalachian Clog Dancing to the Folk Train for the first time and put on a great show in far from ideal circumstances necessitated by typical British Summer weather! |
27 August 2002
Apologies - No pictures this month!
Because of industrial action by North West
Trains' operating staff we all had to stay at home.
(Despite their regular appearances on the Folk Train I still
haven't yet managed to take any pictures of Deepcar Folk.)
| 24 September 2002
(Click on the picture for the full series) Toein' in the Dark made a welcome return, but without accordianist Jenny, who was indisposed. Andy, Carmel and Bob worked extra hard to entertain the small but select audience. |
| 22 October 2002
(Click on the picture for the full series) Got them at last! Deepcar Folk have been regular performers on the Folk Train but I haven't got them 'in frame' until now. |
| 26 November 2002
(Click on the picture for the full series) First time on the Folk Train for all-female band Airs & Graces. In demand far and wide, the line-up includes Sally Goldsmith, whose ramblers' songs were very appropriate for this occasion! |
| 17 December 2002
(Click on the picture for the full series) So I got it wrong! The Sheffield Folk Chorale doesn't perform the local carols (well, the odd one!). Its repertoire is a fascinating mix of unusual carols and Christmas songs from all sorts of sources. |
